Can we sustain the present level of consumption and way of living forever?

Can we just watch as one out of five people in the world suffers in absolute poverty and deprivation?

World population: World POPClock Projection

NPO 2050 is an organization concerned with global issues such as population, poverty, women's status and the environment.
Let us take a moment to consider. What would the world be like in the year 2050 if we just stand by, hoping that someone else will do something? It is time for all of us to get involved and make this planet a better place to live. NPO 2050 brings all these global problems and their possible consequences to the attention of the world's citizens, and cooperates with local and national authorities, international organizations, NGOs, entrepreneurs, and individuals to create a better world and a safe future.

Environment disruption:
This planet should be handed over to the next generation as a safe and peaceful place. We must not leave our problems unattended to our children and grandchildren.

Unless the present level of environmental degradation is contained, this planet will soon become untenable. Indifference to the existing environmental problems is detrimental to the well-being of all living creatures, young and old.

Women's empowerment:
Women comprise a half of world's population. NPO 2050 believes therefore that a safe and peaceful world cannot be built unless women's potential is fully mobilized.

A half of the people in this world suffer from poverty and 70% of them are women. It is essential to eradicate poverty if we are serious about building a peaceful world. It implies that women all over the world should be entitled to fundamental human rights. They should have ready access to education and basic health services.

Rapid growth of population:
An immense increase in the world population will have a negative impact on the environment, food security and the existing infrastructure. It will lead to a further economic gap between the rich and the poor, threatening human security all over the world.

Approximately ninety-seven percent of this increase is taking place in developing countries and unless this increase is checked, it will exacerbate human misery and sufferings.

Everyone! Get involved!
Our future will be a brighter one if each one of us becomes aware of these issues and tries to solve them. We invite everyone to take part in our activities.

NPO 2050 is working in partnership with various organizations, in order to protect future generations and this planet earth. Its main undertakings are:

  1. Scholarship programs in six Asian countries for girls from very poor families, providing opportunities for them to go to school.
  2. Study tours to developing countries to learn about the nature and extent of existing problems and people's self-help efforts to solve their problems.
  3. Empowerment program for poor, rural women in the Philippines, providing opportunities for cash income through raising Eri silk worms and knitting/weaving silk products.
  4. Advocacy and awareness creation activities for parliamentarians and citizens through regular lectures and workshops.
  5. Publication of the Global Population Bulletin and 2050 Newsletter several times a year as well as the World Population Data Sheet (in Japanese) once a year.
